Chapter 2 I’m Not Marrying Him
Shelley stared at Laurel for a long time.
Shelley racked her brain, but she still couldn’t figure out what
went wrong.
In the car.
Laurel’s phone blared with a customized ringtone.
It rang for a long time.
Shelley couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Laurel, you have a call!” Shelley reminded Laurel.
Shelley wanted to know what Laurel would say to Bruno.
Laurel looked down. She tried her hardest to calm a calm voice. “Hello, Bruno.”
“Do you have fun today?” Bruno asked caringly.
Laurel scoffed.
Bruno was a candidate in an important contest. It would select the elite young people in their city. So,
Laurel had come to Lime Hill to find a good-luck charm for Bruno.
The old Laurel would always put Bruno first.
Laurel had the potential to be the brightest star, yet she had given up everything for Bruno.

“Laurel?” Bruno sounded more concerned since Laurel didn’t
reply.
“It’s alright,” Laurel answered indifferently. “I got a lucky charm for your career.”
“Didn’t you get one for fertility?” Bruno joked.
Laurel did.
But when Laurel looked at the charm, she only felt disgusted.
It was until she died that Laurel found out she was barren because Bruno had been slipping
contraceptive drugs into her diet.
The most pathetic thing was Laurel had to put up with the Scott family’s snide remarks and humiliations
because of it.
“What’s wrong? Are you tired?” Bruno asked worriedly. He seemed to pick up on Laurel’s unusual
attitude.
“I went to Lime Hill with Shelley first thing in the morning. I’m tired. And I’m driving.”
“It’s my fault. I would have come with you if something didn’t come up.” Bruno sounded guilty.
Laurel scoffed, though she thought Bruno didn’t even deserve
her disdain.
Laurel felt she was foolish for buying Bruno’s excuses before.
Bruno was indeed busy… But he was busy sleeping with other
women.
“Drive safe,” Bruno said.

Laurel hung up without a word.

Shelley looked at the dark look on Laurel and bit her tongue.
Shelley thought Laurel had become a completely different person.
This Laurel felt so strange.
Shelley decided that she should go to bed early tonight and maybe tomorrow Laurel would return to
normal.
After they returned downtown, Laurel dropped Shelley off at her house.
“Shelley,” Laurel called.
Shelley looked back.
Laurel was looking at Shelley with a strange look.
Laurel was trying to prove something.
Laurel needed to make sure that she was alive.
So did Shelley.
Laurel’s stare creeped Shelley out. She said, “Are you alright? It’s said that Lime Hill is haunted. Did
you see something there?”
Shelley was still the funny and innocent girl in Laurel’s memory.
None of those traumatizing events had happened to her.
Laurel smiled.

This was her first genuine smile since she was reborn.
Laurel said, “Good thing that you’re alive.”

“I knew something was wrong with you.” Shelley was speechless. “My dad said that nobody could get
rid of me easily since I was troublesome. It takes more than a car accident to kill me.”
Laurel used to think that nothing could take Shelley down too. Shelley was carefree and lived in her
own world. The last thing Shelley would do was to kill herself. But Shelley had jumped down from the
28th floor and became a pile of
unrecognizable mess.
Laurel could never get over this traumatizing and painful
event.
Laurel felt lucky.
She had returned at the right time. She still had time.
Everything hadn’t happened. And Laurel could make Bruno pay for all of them.
Laurel collected herself and changed the subject. “Don’t tell others what happened today.”
“What happened?”
“My pact with Hayden.”
Shelley rolled her eyes. “Why would I? You’ll be yourself again tomorrow.”
However, Laurel would only be more determined tomorrow.

Laurel nodded and drove home.
Laurel was back to her home ten years ago.
She felt familiar and strange at the same time when she entered the Lambert’s house.
Her heart swelled with all kinds of emotions.

Laurel’s eyes became red-rimmed as soon as she walked into the living room and saw her parents.
If Laurel had known Bruno’s true color in her last life, her parents wouldn’t have been killed in the
staged car crash. Her parents died because they shielded Laurel in the crash with. their bodies.
Laurel didn’t want to remember or relive those brutal and painful pasts.
“Laurel, didn’t you go to Lime Hill to find a lucky charm for Bruno? You’re home early.” Blanca Lambert,
Laurel’s mom,
asked in a warm tone.
Laurel kept her tears at bay and smiled. She walked over to her parents.
Laurel swore that
everything would be different from now on.
Laurel swore that she would kill Bruno and take over the Scott family. She wouldn’t let anyone harm her
family again.

“Why the red eyes?” As Laurel walked closer, Blanca asked. worriedly.
“They were dry and I rubbed them too hard.”
“The Scott family called and asked us to go over the details of the wedding together…” Blanca said.
Laurel took a deep breath and said, “Mom, I’m not marrying Bruno.”
“What?” Blanca was shocked..
Irvin Lambert, Laurel’s dad, was sitting next to Blanca. Hel looked up from his newspaper. “Did you
have a fight?”
“Bruno is evil. He marries me for our family fortune. He plans to use us as his stepping stone for his
family.” Laurel sensed that her parents didn’t believe her. She continued. “I don’t have proof yet. But
give me some time. I’ll show you!”
Irvin and Blanca fell silent since they realized that Laurel was serious.
They never needed to worry about Laurel.
Laurel’s grandpa signed the marriage contract with the Scott family when Laurel was just a little girl.
But Laurel never objected. She had played her part well and never associated with other men besides
her family and Bruno. She was bent on marrying Bruno.
And they had been a loving couple. Why would Laurel suddenly change her mind?
Laurel noticed her parents’ confusion. “Dad, I’ve never

how serious Laurel was. “However, if we cancel the wedding now, our family will suffer. The Lambert
Group won’t be able to continue doing business in Rosegrad City.”
Irvin was a little mad.
“You’re wrong,” Laurel said confidently. “When I cancel the wedding, the Scott family will shoulder all
the consequences.”
Irvin was shocked.
He didn’t expect that he would be intimidated by Laurel.
He sensed that Laurel wasn’t the same gentle and soft daughter before.
“The Scott family is the only party who will be humiliated at next month’s wedding!”
