Chapter 4 Teach the Hypocrite a Lesson
The call ended.
Laurel could no longer fall asleep.
She stretched herself, got out of bed, and went downstairs.
In the living room, she saw Kermit Lambert, her father’s brother, and his family come to visit.
This family always had malicious intent.
Before Laurel’s grandpa passed away, he left most of the family property to her father, so Kermit had
been holding grudges ever since. To get his slice of the cake, Kermit colluded with Bruno, which
expedited the fall of the Lambert family.
Laurel silently observed everyone in the living room. She found Kermit had brought his illegitimate
daughter along.
If she remembered it correctly, Kermit came here today to ask for a job position at the Lambert Group
for his illegitimate daughter. Right now, Laurel’s father was in charge of the company. Kermit must have
her father’s consent, especially when Kermit aimed for a better one.
In Laurel’s last life, her father did Kermit a favor and arranged for his illegitimate daughter to work in the
Lambert Group. However, that woman had stirred up quite some trouble.

“Have some tea, Laurel.” Avril Lambert, Kermit’s illegitimate daughter, quickly raised the teacup. She
seemed respectful.
Laurel reached out her hand.
When Laurel took the cup, Avril dropped the handle. In the next moment, the hot tea was about to pour

“I know Laurel didn’t do it on purpose,” Avril hurriedly explained.
Tears welled up in Avril’s eyes, making her look quite fragile.
No wonder Kermit adored Avril even if she was just his illegitimate daughter.
However, in the next second.
Laurel raised her hand.

Avril stared at the aggressive woman in disbelief.
Avril knew Laurel like the back of her hand. Laurel was an obedient and easygoing woman and would
never do such things. Besides, others’ tears could always soften Laurel up, and Laurel’s tears could
melt the whole family’s hearts.
Just now, Laurel gave Avril a slap.
“Do you know this is grandpa’s favorite tea set? You broke it. How can you make it up to us?” Laurel
bellowed as if she was asserting her authority.
Avril’s face turned red as her tears gushed out. She wailed, “It was Laurel’s fault. She didn’t catch the
cup. Laurel…”
“Was it because I didn’t catch it or because you didn’t wait for me to catch it?” Laurel cut Avril short.
“Where did you learn to lie?”
“No. It was you…” Avril shook her head, aggrieved.
“Still lying!” Laurel’s face darkened. “You didn’t grow up in the Lambert family, so you’ve become such a
disgrace. I can’t believe you don’t know how to hold a cup of tea.”
When Kermit heard Laurel taunting his daughter, he was immediately enraged.
However, Kermit also didn’t know whose fault it was. He knew it was hard for Avril, his illegitimate
daughter, to find her footing in high society. Without a good counter-argument, Kermit had to suck it up!
“Gemma.” Laurel turned around to look at Gemma Lambert,

“Enough!” Kermit shouted at Gemma with a face like thunder. “Can you shut up for once?”
Gemma rolled her eyes.
“All right, let me say something.” Irvin stood up, trying to smooth things out. “Although our dad left the
teacup to us, he would hate to see us fighting because of it. I’ll just have the ser vants clean it up.”
“Yes,” Blanca chimed in. “Avril’s hand starts to swell. We should hurry up and send her to the hospital.”
Blanca was well-intentioned, but she intentionally didn’t. mention that Avril got slapped by her daughter.
Laurel couldn’t help but smile.

“Sorry about what had happened. Now, I think it’s time for us to go home,” Kermit’s wife, Belle Yauch
said.
Perhaps, Belle didn’t genuinely want to help Avril. Even if she forgave Kermit to bring his illegitimate
daughter home, she wouldn’t be nice to Avril. However, as Kermit adored Avril, Belle had to pretend.
Belle pulled Kermit to leave.
Kermit scowled. Instead of getting Avril a job, he watched Avril be humiliated. He was too angry to say
anything.
Kermit shook off Belle’s hand and stormed out.
The others quickly followed up.
When Avril left, her eyes were blazing with rage.
Avril didn’t expect Laurel to be a completely different person and give her a hard time. Previously, Avril
believed Laurel would forgive her if she burned Laurel’s hand. But in the end, Avril not only got
smacked by Laurel but also kissed goodbye to her job.

She knew what Avril was thinking. She was ready to thwart every Avril’s plan.
“Laurel,” Irvin uttered. “Why are you so aggressive today?”
To avoid squabbling, they always put up with Kermit and his family. However, Irvin was surprised that
his amiable daughter was acting so tough today.
Somehow, it set his mind at ease.
Laurel came back to her senses and chuckled, “It suddenly dawned on me that people who are kind
are often being taken advantage of.”
“Next time, don’t say it belongs to your grandpa,” Irvin scolded, eyes smiling.
Laurel stuck out her tongue.
Sometimes, one must cross the moral line to deal with hypocrites!
