Chapter 16 The New EIC

Kerwin shook his head.

Betty was instantly amazed by the life of the rich as well.

“So what now?” Betty was a little helpless. “How about you ask that assistant of yours to buy it for

you?”

“He is already on his way. There is a very important meeting today. I’m afraid it will be too late.”

Kerwin frowned slightly. “I’ve asked Robert. He has a new razor but it’s not electric, I don’t quite

know how to use it.”

Betty froze for a moment before she finally realized what exactly Kerwin was asking her. He was asking her to shave him!

“Where is it?” Betty suddenly found this favor Kerwin had asked was very cute. She pursed the

corners of her mouth and said, “I know how. I’ll shave you.”

“It’s in the drawer.”

Betty found the razor in a minute. It was the most old-fashioned kind. She had even to use it with lubricant. Betty carefully put lubricant around Kerwin’s chin and then started to shave him very carefully.

All of a sudden, the distance between Betty and Kerwin was so close that Kerwin could even feel Betty’s breath on his face.

Kerwin raised his eyes slightly. He could see Betty’s face so close. He could even see the fine hair on her white skin, just like the fuzz on peaches.

“Is something wrong?” Maybe it was because she had noticed Kerwin’s gaze, Betty suddenly became more nervous “Did I cut you?”

“No,” Kerwin opened his mouth, his voice is cold as before. “It’s just, what you are doing for me, it feels like you are really my wife.”

Betty froze, and her cheeks started to burn slightly.

They were married as husband and wife, yet Kerwin used the word feels like.

This was proof to her that he actually felt the same way as she did. And that nothing felt real about this marriage for both of them.

“Done,” Betty quickly finished shaving Kerwin, and after carefully wiping off the lubricant and looking twice, she broke into a smile. “You’re good now.”

“Thanks,” said Kerwin lightly and wheeled himself to the table for breakfast.

There was this tension of awkwardness in the air during the whole breakfast because of the earlier closeness. Betty even forgot to ask Kerwin if he was okay with her cooking.

Peter arrived after they finished eating. Kerwin was in a hurry and couldn’t take Betty to the subway station today, so Betty took a taxi and sent herself directly to the magazine.

Walking into the magazine, Betty found more tension in the air than the joyfulness yesterday. she could not help but elbow Sarah and whisper, “What happened?”

“You must have not checked your mailbox this morning.” Sarah widened her eyes. “Our magazine was bought yesterday! The senior staff has all been replaced!”

Betty was stunned.

The magazine she had been working for was not big, but it was a long-established one for years. How could it have been bought all of a sudden?

She heard a stir among her colleagues by the door before she could make any reaction.

“Here he is! Here he is! The new EIC is here!”

Betty looked up and saw a tall slender figure enter the magazine, surrounded by a bunch of people.

Betty felt as if something had struck her the moment she saw that man’s face. The blood all over her body was frozen!
