Contract Marriage With The Disabled CEO By Woody Rain Chapter 17

Chapter 17 How Have You Been For The Past Two Years

She remembered that face all too well. His features became more angular, with a trace of maturity in his brows now, compared to the young and delicate ones back in his school years.

But on that face, the gentleness she had missed was long gone. There was nothing but indifference

left.

He was listening to his men around him making reports, nodding from time to time, and giving a few simple instructions.

And with his eyes never set on her, he walked straight into the EIC Office surrounded by the crowd.

Betty paled a little bit.

Jeffrey Martin, how was he back here, and why…

VU

Why would he come back since he had left so resolutely back then, without even a single goodbye?

It had been two years. She had already let it go, more or less. But his reappearance still took and overwhelmed her just like that.

She was not even sure if he had recognized her at the first sight, just like she had as he walked past with a quick brush.

At the thought of that, Betty suddenly mocked herself with a faint smile.

Recognized her or not, what was the difference anyway?

He and she, were never going to be the same as before anymore…

Betty was anxious for an entire day, afraid that Jeffrey would recognize her.

But as it turned out, it had all been her wishful thinking.

Jeffrey took office and held a few meetings immediately to make some adjustments to personnel and the magazine’s positioning.

At the meeting, he listened intently to the reports made by every EIC, occasionally giving some simple instructions, and did not seem to notice Betty sitting at the end of the conference table from beginning to end.

It seemed he had forgotten about her.

In retrospect, it was more than natural. He wouldn’t have left and disappeared without saying goodbye two years ago if she had had anything worth remembering to him.

It had taken forever before Betty could finally get off work. She didn’t want to stay in the office for one more second, so she grabbed her bag immediately and made to leave.

But unfortunately, her editor-in-chief suddenly saw her and stopped her.

“Wait a minute, Betty. Send this report to Mr. Martin’s office for me, will you? And make a brief report.”

Betty suddenly stiffened and turned around with an embarrassed look. “Mrs. Green, I kind of have a family emergency today. Could you…”

Nicole Green, Betty’s ED, was already in a bad mood today because she had not performed as well as the EIC next door. And when she heard Betty’s refusal, her face suddenly fell. “Betty White, you only did one hit interview and now you’re full of yourself, aren’t you?”

Nicole had always been a blunt woman. Betty went from white to pale and did not say anything but, “You’re making fun of me, Mrs. Green. I’m on it right now.”

With the materials in her hands, Betty walked to Jeffrey’s office door. She took a couple of more deep breaths before she finally raised her hand.

Knock, knock

Just the knocking seemed to have taken up all her strength.

“Come in.”

Inside the door, it was Jeffrey’s familiar voice. Betty pushed the door and walked in.

Jeffrey’s office was not as luxurious as Kerwin’s, but it was still exquisitely decorated. He was

sitting at his desk, flipping through the issue that had the interview with Kerwin.

“Mr. Martin,” Betty opened her mouth, trying to make her voice sound as calm as it could be. “Mrs. Green has asked me to give you a brief report on the interview with Tylman’s CEO.”

Jeffrey said nothing more but a simple yeah without even raising his head, so Betty had to bite the bullet and start the report.

Jeffrey still kept silent after her report, and Betty could not take it anymore.

“Well..” She tried to hide the faint trembling in her voice. “Mr. Martin, if you don’t have anything else, I’ll go first.”

She quickly turned around to go out after saying that.

But just as her hand had reached the door handle, a strong hand abruptly grabbed hers.

“You’re married?” The man’s narrow gaze fell upon the ring on her finger.

Betty didn’t have the courage to look him in the eye. She just looked away and nodded.

Jeffrey stared at her ring with fixed eyes, in which emotions were swirling.

Suddenly, he broke into a mocking smile.

“At the end of the day, Betty, the man you’ve chosen so carefully can only afford melee diamonds?”

Something crossed his mind and there was this obvious disgust in his eyes. “But it makes absolute sense. A woman who would sell her body for money would basically do anything for a man who would spend a little money on her.”

Betty was struck by his words. Her face went as pale as sheets.

“You… you know what happened two years ago?” Betty managed a sentence with shivered lips.

“Aha!” Seeing Betty’s first reaction was not denial, Jeffrey felt this dull pain in his heart for no

reason.

Jeffrey’s hand on Betty’s wrist tightened and his voice got colder, “Yes, I know. And I knew it two years ago. Honestly, Betty, I should really thank you. Nothing would have driven me into the decision to study in America than the discovery that the woman I had loved and endeared for three years was a whore.”

Betty felt the last blood drain out of his face.

Exactly two years… she had wondered countless times why he would suddenly have gone abroad to study two years ago when she was most vulnerable and needed Jeffrey the most.

And now, she finally knew.

It was for the same reason.

But she also found it very strange. Jeffrey obviously had left the country before that incident became like a big deal. Could it be that he had already known everything even before the incident?

But how could it have been possible…

But now was obviously not the time to go deeper into that. Betty’s face went pale from Jeffrey’s squeezing hand, but she still struggled to say, “What happened two years ago was a misunderstanding. I actually…”

She quickly turned around to go out after saying that.
