House Of Legions (The Angel Descendants book 1)

Chapter 14 (Liam)

Chapter 14 (Liam)

The necklace had been safely handed to Franchesca before she left for the mall. But Liam wasn't feeling relief. He was still furious that Kalbreal waited so long before he helped Clare. Not only was she injured, but Liam knew that the incident would be haunting, and Clare didn't need more haunting experiences. She’d have enough of that to deal with once she found out the truth. Her mood swings and temper tantrums were only going to get worse before it got better as well.

Not catching a glimpse of Clare’s sleeping form didn't help his mood, especially since the reason was Kalbreal. Liam was just about to go into her room, when he sensed the Angel.

Liam cloaked himself and was about to leave, but stopped at the eye full he got of Kalbreal leaving Clare’s room. The urge to wreck havoc was so potent, he barely maintained his cloaked form. His impulse to claim Clare and mark her as his, after he ripped Kalbreal’s eyes out for looking at what was his, almost had him going blind. But he had refrained, barely, by a breath and only because the Angel had left, and Liam’s rationality knew Clare was his and Kalbreal wouldn't be able to touch her, because she was still fully mortal. It was enough to appease his instinct for the time being.

Now he was sitting at a table of a crappy restaurant on Umhlanga Rocks drive waiting for said Angel. He hadn't heard back from Kalbreal since he’d arrived, but he was certain Kalbreal got his message. Liam needed to see Kalbreal face to face. Kalbreal lied way too much for Liam to take his word for anything. The guy was his definition of an arrogant prick. He wondered what Clare thought of Kalbreal, but at the first sign of unease he blanked it out of his mind. It seemed his body didn't like any association of Clare thinking about another man, which surprisingly perked his mood up instantly, ha.

His coffee arrived. When the lady didn't move he lifted his head up to the ladies crooked toothy grin and then to the others in the restaurant, as they exerted minutes of their existence pondering his handsomeness. Which he felt a nuisance, but not too much to keep having to hide, especially from today’s deceptors. So keen on outer appearance, no wonder it was such an ease when Satan tricked Eve.

Liam’s phone vibrated for the umpteenth time, he’d been ignoring the call from Kole, another brooding problem. Liam rejected the call, which he knew he would have to pick up eventually. But not now. If Kole was going to help, it’d be on his own revenue, especially since the alcoholic bastard had ditched him for a full year.

Ignoring the people in the restaurant he focused on the red lantern light on the pinewood table. It wasn't long before the cool breeze blew from the open door when the one who he waited for approached him with that smug grin on. Rethinking his decision to be at mercy to one like Angel-boy, Liam had to remind himself that if he were to get answers, and fast, he was gonna have to act nice.

His lip twitched in an attempt to play nice and stood up, “Kalbreal, who’s the guy in the car?”

“Alonso, but I wouldn’t trust him, just met him recently.”

“So.” Liam asked, “did Franchesca do what she agreed to?”

“No, I sensed her feelings changed, something different. I presume she holds more secrets but it’s not why I asked you here.”

Liam’s face remained cold and hard, he had known Franchesca, and nothing was ever so simple when her name was involved, “I wonder what could be the reason to her sudden change of heart?” novelbin

“There’s mention about her being a target, possibly Clare too, I need you to find out why William. If I ask it’ll raise too many suspicions. And could you PLEASE answer your phone when Kole calls. He’s making it really difficult to be understanding. He wants no part in this, and I need all of you to help protect her.”

Answering his brother was not going to happen, he listened to Kalbreal give him DAMN orders. But Kalbreal knew the chance of Liam doing anything was slim to none.

Liam ignored most of it, “The Legions, why don’t they help?”

“Wesley is on board, he’ll see the message spread. I saw Jullie this morning, playing, ‘let's follow Clare.’ You know for a Caster you seem to underestimate my capabilities of keeping a young girl safe.”

Liam would have felt offended if he were human. But he wasn't, he discouraged human emotions and found it amusing that Kalbreal seemed to be battling them. Not bothering to comment on that, Liam tapped his finger on the table, “Jokes aside, I don’t wish Franchesca to give herself up like a weak deceptor nor do I think she would. I mean she has spent ALL those years with me by her side, I must have taught her something.”
