Chapter 14 Do You Understand?
Monday arrived.
Not long after Clarrisa showed up at the company, she received an email from the company’s human
resource department. It was a mass email.
“After observing and consolidating various departments, we have made our decisions. The employees
who have passed their internship will be promoted to permanent positions. Here’s a list of their names:
…”
Clarissa was extremely nervous. It was as if her heart was going to leap out. She only calmed down
after seeing the name “Clarissa Johnson” on the list of people being promoted. At that moment, she
was happy but also surprised.
There was another intern from Pioneer University named Nicole Brown in the finance department.
Many people thought she was promising. However, she did not pass her internship.
Howard had mentioned the finance department only needed one extra employee. The spot was filled
up by Clarissa.
After seeing the results, Howard gazed at Clarissa with a strange expression.
Clarissa and Nicole were the two interns in the finance department this year. Nicole had graduated
from Pioneer University and was close to Howard. Moreover, she was professional and knowledgeable.
If Clarissa did not take leaves frequently, she could have competed against Nicole. Unfortunately, she
did and her chances of staying at New East Corporation were slim. Even Clarissa herself thought that
Nicole would be the one to get promoted. At this moment, it felt like Lady Luck had given all her
blessings.
Based on Howard’s reaction, it was clear that he had recommended Nicole to the human resource
department.
Clarissa guessed that Damien had probably put in a good word for her.
Still, she did not know what he said to the human resource department. Did he inform them about their
marriage contract?
Once they were off work, Lily and Clarissa planned to celebrate by having some pizza. Lily was
officially promoted too. She worked in the public relations department.
When they got on the elevator, Damien was also there with one hand in his pocket. He did not react
after seeing Clarissa. As usual, he looked bold, noble, and distant.
There were a few senior executives behind Damien. They were talking about the company’s digital
advertising business.
Lily and Clarissa just stayed at the back. They dared not even breathe heavily.
“You can apply to stay in a dormitory after getting a permanent position. Have you submitted your
application?” Lily asked Clarissa softly.
No matter how much Lily tried to lower her volume, others could still hear her. Furthermore, they were
in a confined space. Fortunately, the senior executives were busy talking among themselves. Hence,
they did not really pay attention to Lily.
Clarissa replied, “Not yet.”
“Why not? The rooms will be filled up if you don’t act quickly.”
Lily turned her head and looked at Clarissa.
“I understand. I’ll get it done as soon as possible.”
After saying that, Clarissa took a quick glance at Damien.
She did not apply for a dormitory because she had to visit Damien’s grandfather once every week. If
she left every Saturday and returned on Sunday, her roommate would surely have questions. The truth
would be exposed more easily. Thus, she wanted to ask for Damien’s opinion before doing anything.
However, she had a hard time opening her mouth because it seemed as if Damien would not concern
himself with her problems. Since she did not lack money, she decided to continue living in her current
apartment. Living outside of the company’s dormitory was more convenient if she had to visit her
mother or go to Florin.
Regardless, Clarissa received a “Dormitory Check-in Procedure” from the human resource department
on Wednesday. She needed to fill in her particulars.
At first, she was stunned. Just as she was about to ask Howard about it, she received a message from
Damien.
[ Stranger Do you understand? ]
Damien had truly overestimated Clarissa’s intelligence. He thought she would understand what he
meant with just three words.
Still, Clarissa finally managed to figure it out after thinking for a long time. Damien had most likely
instructed the human resource department to let her remain in New East Corporation. Nicole would
have gotten the position if it were up to Howard.
Damien was probably worried that he would lose control if she were to leave New East Corporation.
Moreover, this seemingly had something to do with Damien’s comment about her being “dirty”.novelbin
There would be four people in a dormitory. If Clarissa’s “boyfriend” went to her place, Damien would
definitely find out. Clearly, Clarissa was being monitored.
As expected of a president, Damien had certainly thought ahead and made detailed arrangements.
Clarissa only replied one word.
