Chapter 24 Pressuring Erin to Get Pregnant
lan and Erin felt awkward when they heard Mary’s words.
“Mom, why would you bring up the topic of having children out of nowhere?” lan was the first to speak. Losing his appetite, he put down
his spoon.
“Why can’t we talk about it? You and Erin have been married for a year now. Look at your cousin. He’s three years younger than you and already a father. His wife even gave birth to twin sons. I’m not expecting you to have twins, but at least have a baby.”
Listening to her mother–in–law urge her to get pregnant made Erin regret following lan home. Their act seemed never–ending…Thinking
that she would soon be divorcing lan, Erin didn’t want to continue discussing this topic. She put down her spoon and glanced at Mary. “I
have a headache. I’m going to bed first.”
Before they could react. Erin stood up. Mary slammed her spoon out of anger. She was so furious that she was at a loss for words.
Erin paused for a while but didn’t turn back. She headed straight to the second floor.
Watching her daughter–in–law’s change of attitude at the mention of having children, Mary choked up and said, “lan, look at your wife. She’s becoming more and more unreasonable. I just want a grandson. How dare she throw a tantrum in front of me? The last time I came. she said she wanted to give birth to
a son and a daughter for our family. It hasn’t been that long, and she’s changed her mind. What’s going on with you two?”
lan’s eyes darkened. He chuckled in response to Mary’s question. “Mom, you’re thinking too much. We’re fine. I told you, Erin is just tired tonight. We can talk about having children later. I’m going to bed too. Mom, get some rest too. Let’s clean up the kitchen tomorrow.”
Seeing that her son didn’t want to talk anymore, Mary sighed and let it go for now.
After taking a shower, Erin walked out of the bathroom. She abruptly stopped in her tracks and asked in a displeased tone. “What are you doing here?”
She was in the guest room.
lan had changed into his pajamas and was lying sideways. Holding a bank card between his fingers, he teased Erin. “What? Are you ready to hand me the five million dollars?”
“lan, how dare you rummage through my bag? Don’t you know what privacy is?”
He sneered, “Don’t talk to me about privacy! Did you care about privacy when you went to the bank to check my transaction records?” 1
“Who asked you to cheat on me during our marriage?” Erin was raging.
lan stood up and walked to her while whispering. “Lower your voice! Do you want my mom to hear us?”
Erin couldn’t be bothered to look at him. She retorted coldly, “lan, get out and go back to your own room!”
“Hmph, if my mom sees us sleeping in two different rooms, what will she think?”
“I don’t care. She can think whatever she wants”
Pissed off, lan pressed her against the wall. He waved the bank card in front of her eyes and spoke gloomily. “Erin, are you really willing to give me five million dollars just to divorce me?”
Since he already had the card, Erin thought she might as well give him the money now.
Determination flashed across Erin’s eyes as she replied. “Yes, I’ll give you back the five million! Whenever you’re free, let’s go to City Hall and get a divorce.”
Erin was actually willing to give up five million dollars just to divorce him. This made lan feel a stifling anger in his chest. novelbin
“So you really want to divorce me that badly?” He pressed down on Erin’s shoulders. The force made her frown. “Let me go!”
“What can you do to me if I don’t let go?” lan stared at her face with a cold expression.
Erin was only wearing a bathrobe, and the fact that she was naked underneath made her feel a little anxious. However, she pretended to remain calm and said, “lan, I’ve given you back the money. If you keep bothering me like this, it’ll only make me hate you more!”
“Hate me? Have you fallen in love with someone else?” lan’s lace darkened.
Just then, Erin’s phone buzzed. She received a message. A hint of nervousness flashed across her eyes.
lan noticed her tension and let go of her immediately. He turned to go to the sofa to get her bag.
Panicking, Erin rushed forward and hugged her bag tightly. She’d already guessed that he wanted to see her phone. The message was from Chandler, and she didn’t want lan to know about her relationship with him.
“Who sent you a text just now?” lan stood before her, his face tense as he asked through gritted teeth.
Erin sneered and said coldly. “Why do I need to tell you?”
lan suddenly laughed. He walked to a tea cabinet, took a cigarette from a pack, and lit it with a lighter. After taking a deep puff, he asked, ”
How long have you been dating him?”
Looking at his dark eyes, Erin spoke calmly. “Just leave: I’m really tired and don’t want to argue with you anymore.”
“If you won’t tell me, I’ll find out myself!” lan was about to leave the room.
Watching his back, Erin suddenly asked. “What do you really want? You said that if I gave you back the five million dollars, we would divorce. Have you changed your mind?”
For one second, lan couldn’t figure out what he really wanted. He thought he would be satisfied after sleeping with Erin, but when she really returned the money, he felt somewhat uneasy. Her lack of attachment and reluctance to stay with him made him very disappointed. Had she really fallen out of love with him?
lan left the room without saying a word.
Erin opened the door to her room and immediately took the key out of the lock before turning off the lights and going to sleep. Holding her phone, she finally opened the screen to see a message from Chandler. “Divorce him within three days.”
His message left her completely puzzled. What was Chandler thinking? What did her decision to divorce have to do with him?
Confused. Erin forced herself to go to sleep. After tossing and turning for an hour, she finally fell asleep out of exhaustion.
When Erin went downstairs the next morning, she saw that Mary had prepared breakfast, and lan was already eating.
She walked into the dining room and said, “I’m going to work first.”
lan put down his fork with a bang and said with a grim face, “Stop right there! Erin, didn’t you see that Mom has already prepared breakfast? She even laid out your cutlery. Are you really in such a hurry?”
Erin turned around and saw that there was indeed a set of cutlery on the table. Mary’s face was gloomy.
The mother and son’s unfriendly attitude eventually made her sit down obediently. Then she started eating breakfast.
Without saying a word, Mary ate her breakfast too. She ate very quickly. After putting down her fork, she turned to Erin and said, “Erin, hand in your resignation letter today, and try to get pregnant in three months.”
Hearing her commanding tone, Erin was dumbfounded. “Mom, what are you talking about?”
“What? You don’t understand what I said? Let me say Il again! I want you to quit your job today and focus on getting pregnant at home. within three months!”
Furious, Erin stood up. “Who are you to tell me what to do? How can you ask me to resign just like that? Do you think my job is a joke? Even if you’re lan’s mother, you don’t have the right to control my freedom!”
After speaking. Erin didn’t bother to say another word. She quickly left the dining room and went to the door to put on her shoes.
As she opened the door, Mary ran out and yelled, “Erin, don’t think that I don’t know you kicked my son out of the room last night! How can you get pregnant if you sleep in separate rooms?”
