Chapter 8: Are you flirting with me?

Chapter 8: (Aubrey's POV)- Are You Flirting With Me?

"Tada!" He sat next to me, presenting me a plate of mac n' cheese to me as if it were the most exquisite

dish in the world.

I laughed before taking the fork that he handed me and slowly digging into it.

He dug into his food and took a huge bite. "Holy sh- oh my it is hot." He blew while continuing to chew

with a mouthful.

I laughed at his reaction before slowly taking a bite out of mine after letting it cool down a little. I can't

lie, his mac n' cheese was delicious. A lot better than I've ever made it, that's for sure.

"So how'd you like it?" He looked at me with hopeful eyes and an adorable grin.

"To be honest, it isn't any better than I've ever made or tasted," I lied. It was getting reactions out of

him, but he already knows that.

"The lies you tell, Carthy." He shook his head while looking down, feigning disappointment.

"I truly am sorry with all my heart." I patted his shoulder sympathetically.

He looked at me with a goofy smile playing at his lips before he began talking. "No but really, is it

okay?" he questioned genuinely wanting to know if I liked what he made for me.

"Yes! It's more than okay. It's really good," I told him truthfully before taking a bite out of my food.

"Thank you," he smiled at me smugly while pretending to dust his shoulders, earning a smack to the

arm from me. "You are aggressive!" he whined while rubbing the spot where I smacked him.

I shook my head while smiling before we continued to eat, making small talk, finding out more and

more things about each other.

Well now, let's see what I can add to the list of the things I now know about Xavier Parker.

He likes to cook in his free time, he loves to read and that's something nobody really knows, he's only

ever been in one serious relationship, he broke his arm when he was thirteen while doing a backflip on

a trampoline, he really wants to go skydiving and his favorite book is actually pride and prejudice.

Good taste, I have to say.

"Your turn. Spill your deepest darkest secrets out to me. Come on Carthy. Spill." He gave me a teasing

look before I cleared my throat and began talking.

"I like to dance in my free time, that's why I was on the team, I left the team because I had too much

going on at the time and it took away a lot of time, I've never broken a bone but I have fractured my

right ankle while jumping a fence, I've only ever been in one serious relationship, and I really want to go

bungee jumping," I concluded. "Thank you for coming to my ted talk," I finished, making him stifle a

laugh.

"One serious relationship huh? Who was the lucky guy?" he questioned while finishing up his food.

"Someone not so great," I sighed as I finished up too and took his plate, deciding to help out and do the

dishes.

"Why did the relationship end?" he pressed further.

"He cheated." I took a deep breath, closing my eyes, reliving the painful memories in that minute.

"With who?" he interrogated. He seemed curious but I don't lose anything by telling him so I did

anyway.

"Kylie Lopez." I finished washing the dishes and turned to him while drying my hands.

"Who's the guy?" he questioned. At least now he knows why I hate her so much.

"Peter Miller," I sighed while going back to my seat next to him. He shrugged before speaking,

"His loss anyway." We fell into a short silence after that. "Did it hurt?" he questioned, his voice softer

than I've ever heard it.

"Like hell. But I had to get over it." I shrugged while twiddling my thumbs.

"Didn't he get suspended before summer started?" he questioned, confusion laced in his voice.

"Yeah, for picking a fight with a freshman. Over Kylie," I informed him while staring off into space.

"So he's a creep then? Dodged a bullet there," he joked, trying to lighten the mood a tad bit.

"I dodged the bullet but now it's me myself and I," I shrugged.

"You can find someone so much better so easily, Carthy. Just look." I could feel his gaze burning into

the side of my head.

"Are you flirting with me?" I turned to him suddenly, holding in a laugh and a blush.

"Do you want me to be flirting with you?" He raised his eyebrows at me while smirking boyishly.

"That doesn't answer my question, Parker. Are you flirting with me?" I repeated my question to him.

"Possibly," he told me truthfully. So he admits it? He was flirting with me. Possibly means yes, doesn't

it? Usually?

"Why?" I softly chuckled while turning my seat to face him completely.

"Maybe because I like you," he spoke casually. "You're a nice person. Drop-dead gorgeous..." he trailed

off.

"Flattering me? Smooth," I teased while nodding, feigning to be impressed.

He laughed while looking down and scratching the back of his neck.

"Are you blushing?" I asked in shock, grabbing his arm, pulling him to face me, he avoided my gaze

and continued to look down. "So he does get cute?" I pressed further.

His eyes lifted to meet mine. He smiled before speaking, "I knew you found me cute," he whispered

while leaning in teasingly. It was my turn to blush.

I pushed him away, nudging him playfully before getting off the stool and walking over to the couch.

Before I could sit down, the doorbell rang. Xavier went to answer it with me following closely behind.

"Julie?" he spoke, his brows furrowed in confusion as he leaned against the door.

"Hey Xavier, is your mom home?" she asked while holding a basket in her hands. I couldn't deny, she

was pretty.

A redhead with shimmering green eyes. Her skin was clear, almost glowing. Her hair cascaded in

beautiful curls down her body, up to her chest while her freshly manicured hands dangled the basket,

swinging it gently. She had a perfect body, one to die for which she proudly showed off with a faded

pink skirt and a white bandeau. Xavier's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"No, she's at work, why?" he questioned in confusion still.

"Tell her I stopped by will you? I was going around town looking for volunteers for the bake sale. I

thought she might like to join, I know she likes to bake," she smiled at him graciously. She gestured to

me with her eyes. "Who's this?" She turned her glance back to Xavier.

He stood up straighter before introducing me. "This is Aubrey, my uh- my..." he struggled to find the

right words so I helped the guy out.

"I'm a friend. Our moms work together." I stuck my hand out for her to shake.

She shook it, her nails somewhat digging into my skin. I wasn't sure if it was the length or if it was

intentional. "Nice to meet you." She smiled at me, it was sweet. A little too sweet. "Well, I'll be off. Bye."

She leaned forward, hugging Xavier tightly.

I felt a tinge of anger in me. I don't know why. I shouldn't care at all who he hugs. He can hug whoever novelbin

he wants. He could go and hug Kylie for all I care. Why was I feeling angry then? Was I even feeling

angry? Isn't jealousy the right word?

"Bye Aubrey." She finally pulled away from Xavier after what felt like an eternity. Maybe just to me.

"Bye Julie." I smiled at her, the same sickly sweet yet bitchy way as she walked out of the driveway.

He shut the door and turned to me.

"You two seem close. Are you?" I pointed out while we stood there awkwardly.

"We actually-" he was talking but randomly stopped and eyed me head to toe before continuing. "We

are. Yeah, we are, very close. Why are you asking?" he narrowed his eyes down at me ever so slightly.

I clenched and unclenched my jaw. Why was this Julie girl affecting me so much? "Just curious. I

haven't seen her around," I lied straight through my teeth.

"She goes to a private school on the other side of town. We're very close."

Okay, now he was just rubbing it in my face.

"You two are very close. Two peas in a pod, I get it," I spoke sarcastically while rolling my eyes.

"Are you jealous?" He suddenly trapped me against the wall.

Why is my heart suddenly beating like that?
