The Billionaire's Secret Quartet

Chapter 1445

Chapter 1445

It was a few ticks past seven in the morning now.

With Lydia in tow, Thalassa hurried towards Dr Funke’s residence.

Once they reached Dr. Funke’s doorstep, Thalassa rang the doorbell, but no one seemed to be stirring inside.

After a couple of minutes, the door swung open to reveal Dr. Funke in slippers and

pajamas, his face clouded with the grogginess of early morning. “You’re quite the early bird, huh?”

“Well, you know what they say, the early bird catches the worm. I did promise to introduce your new apprentice to you yesterday,” Thalassa replied with a breezy confidence. Just then, her pocket buzzed with the sound of an incoming call.

She pulled out her cell phone and saw that it was a callback from Hertha. With a polite smile to Dr. Funke, she excused herself, “Sorry, I need to take this call.”

Stepping aside, she answered the call, but she was greeted by an unfamiliar male tone. “Hello, this is the Traffic Police Department. May I know what your relation is to the owner of this phone?”

Traffic Police?

A chill sank into Thalassa’s stomach, and a rush of concern was flooding her. “I’m a close friend of hers. Why is her phone with the Traffic Police?”

“Your friend was involved in a car accident last night and has been taken to the hospital.”

“What?” Thalassa felt her heart clench.novelbin

“How serious is it? Which hospital is she at?” Thalassa’s voice trembled with urgency, her mind racing.

She had called Hertha the previous night, and when there was no answer, a nagging worry had set in. But now, reality seemed far grimmer than she had feared.

“She’s at Starhaven Hospital. You’ll have to speak with the hospital for more details.”

Hertha’s accident and the uncertainty of her condition cast a dark shadow over Thalassa’s morning. Her well-planned day was suddenly in disarray.

“I see. Thank you,” Thalassa hung up, her heart pounding with anxiety. She turned to Dr. Funke, preparing to explain her emergency and that she would have to postpone their meeting until she sorted out Hertha’s situation

But before she could utter a word, Dr. Funke chuckled dismissively, “Trying to weasel out of this, are you? I’ve seen this trick before. First, butter me up, then come up with excuses to dodge the deal. We had an agreement yesterday, and you’re going to honor it today. If you can’t, don’t bother coming back.”

His expression darkened, his patience with Thalassa wearing thin, suspecting her of deceit.

“No, it’s not like that. My friend, she’s…”

“You’re going to tell me your friend had a car accident, and it’s touch-and-go, right? Heard that one before. What are the odds, just when you need to fulfill my request, there’s a life-or-death emergency? If you don’t want to introduce a apprentice, just say it. I’m not desperate to treat Lysander,” Dr. Funke interjected with a scoff.

Thalassa’s anxiety spiked at his words. She had done so much just to get Dr. Funke to treat Lysander. If she disappointed him now, Lysander could lose his only chance at recovery.

But what about Hertha? If she didn’t rush to her friend’s side and something terrible happened, how could she forgive herself?

Torn between her best friend’s plight and her children’s father’s sole chance at a cure, Thalassa felt as if she was being torn apart. Choosing between two people she held dear was excruciating.

Her heart was a taut string, ready to snap at any further strain.

“Enough, just leave now.” Dr. Funke glanced at Thalassa with disdain and moved to close! the door.

“Wait!” Thalassa lunged forward, stopping the door with her hand, her clear eyes swirling with desperation as she fought to contain her inner turmoil.

Even though it was difficult, she made her decision with resolve. “Dr. Funke, just give me five minutes. I made you a promise, and I have no intention of breaking it.”
